Forward motion is something of a speciality for Porsche, and not only in terms of acceleration. Porsche has always pushed for progress in all their models, even their most recognizable ones. The Porsche 911 has long been hailed as the purest expression of Porsche’s brand identity, so Porsche has been meticulous in their approach to reinventing such an iconic model. Although the all-new Porsche 992 shares the DNA of the prior generations of the 911, small advancements add up to create something entirely new.
On Thursday, September 12th, the team at our sister store Porsche Centre Saskatchewan hosted Porsche fans from across the prairies to mark the introduction of the new 2020 992. Their sales specialists presented the vehicle and explained the ins and outs of the 992 to all visitors. Curious minds and potential buyers alike were treated to appetizers and refreshments as they received a proper introduction to the latest addition to an iconic model line.
The 9th generation of 911, the 992 has been four years in the making from the initial idea. When looking for new ideas to pull into the 992 projects, designers say they were looking for three key elements: performance, form, and everyday usability.
The top speed of the 992 reaches 308 km/h in the Carrera Sport trim and 306 km/h for the Carrera 4S all-wheel-drive version. The turbocharged flat-six engines also enter a new generation with the new 992. Power for the new age is delivered by a revolutionary eight-speed dual-clutch transmission while a gasoline particulate filter keeps the 992 in compliance with the latest emissions standards
Additional new functionalities include Porsche Wet mode which makes driving on wet roads even safer by detecting wet conditions, warning the driver and adjusting control systems accordingly. Night Vision Assist uses a thermal imaging camera to detect people and larger animals not yet visible in the headlights as far ahead as 100 metres.
Three exclusive digital services are also being debuted in the 992. The Porsche Road Trip app which supports drivers in planning, organising and navigating extraordinary trips. The app allows customers to book accommodations, reserve restaurants and offers recommendations or points of interest en route.
The Porsche 360+ personal assistant is available 24/7 to deal with day-to-day requests including ordering items online or even customizing travel plans. The web-based Porsche Impact emissions calculator enables customers to determine and offset their individual carbon footprint.
